Alt H O I on Mac: AutoFit Column Width in Excel
To run AutoFit Column Width with Alt H O I in Excel on a Mac, install LightningXL, tap Option, then type H, O, I. The same keys as Windows, with the same result.

Install LightningXL
Download LightningXL, then follow the instructions. Setup takes about two minutes.
Select what to act on
Click a cell, or select the range the command should apply to.
Tap Option, then type H O I
Tap ⌥ on its own to show the key tips, then H for Home, O for Format, I for AutoFit Column Width.
What Alt H O I does
AutoFit Column Width sizes the selected columns to fit their widest entry, so nothing shows as ##### and no header is clipped. Without LightningXL, Excel for Mac only offers Format › Column › AutoFit Selection in the menu bar, or a double-click on the column boundary.
