Alt X R A B on Mac: Row and Column ($A$1) in Excel

To run Row and Column ($A$1) with Alt X R A B in Excel on a Mac, install LightningXL, tap Option, then type X, R, A, B. The same keys as Windows, with the same result.

Step by step

  1. Install LightningXL

    Download LightningXL, then follow the instructions. Setup takes about two minutes.

  2. Select what to act on

    Click a cell, or select the range the command should apply to.

  3. Tap Option, then type X R A B

    Tap on its own to show the key tips, then X for LightningXL, R for Formulas, A for Anchor Formula, B for Row and Column ($A$1).

What Alt X R A B does

Row and Column ($A$1) sits under LightningXL › Formulas › Anchor Formula on the Excel ribbon. On Windows, Alt X R A B runs it from the keyboard. Excel for Mac has the same ribbon but no Alt key, so without LightningXL you click through LightningXL › Formulas › Anchor Formula › Row and Column ($A$1) instead.
